Change Of Plans Finalized...

We have been accepted into The Cradle’s domestic adoption program and are now a waiting family. The Cradle is an agency with over 80 years of experience in providing services to Adoptive Parents and Birthparents; their main office and nursery are located in Evanston, IL. We are excited to be working with them.

We will ask our family and friends to please let us know if you hear of someone who is facing an unplanned pregnancy and is considering adoption as one of their options. If you know anyone in this position, or know someone who may be in contact with a person in this situation, please have them call The Cradle at 1.800.272.3534 and inquire about Katie and Rob. We have a short profile letter and five family photos listed under the ‘Meet Waiting Families’ portion of The Cradle’s website; furthermore, prospective Birthparents would have access to our long profile located with our adoption counselor.

Some additional information for you:
- This process is 100% unpredictable; we could be matched with a potential birth parent(s) in two years or two months…we just do not know. We ask that if you wish to ask us a question, you think about this statement prior to asking…chances are the answer will be ‘We do not know’.
- Our child may not look like us. We are open to a variety of races including Caucasian, East Indian, Asian, Hispanic/Latin American, Native American, Middle Eastern, and other Bi-racial backgrounds.
- We are seeking an open adoption where we will have some relationship with the Birthparent(s); it is our intention that the Birthparent(s) will be honored within our family and that we will respect the level of openness that they are comfortable with.
- When we are matched with a child, they may or may not be a newborn. It is likely that they will be under 1 year of age.
- 2 out of every 3 Birthparent(s) have a change of heart at some point in the process; this is the reality of domestic adoption.
- The Cradle is a non-for-profit organization; the costs involved with adoption support the counselors, support staff, resources, etc. – but most importantly they support the nursery and the children. There is a time before paperwork is signed that many children are ‘in-between’ families. It is at this time that the children are placed in The Cradle’s nursery; there is a nursing staff on attendance 24 hours a day.
- After birth, the birth family must wait a minimum of 72 hours to sign the legal paperwork. Sometimes paperwork is signed at this time, and sometimes it is signed months later. Again, this process is 100% unpredictable.
