This weekend we headed down to central Illinois; Rob had a conference in Springfield starting tomorrow morning, so we both took vacation today to make for a long weekend. We took a canoe trip down the Sangamon River; what was suppose to be a 4 hour 10 mile trip took us only 2 hours. It seems that they have had just as much rain as us and the current was swift; we also kept paddling due to the large number of gnats that were around.
For those who are interested in seeing the Springfield sites, the Abraham Lincoln Hotel has a Bicentennial Package running through the end of this year. It is $200 and includes two nights accommodations, 2 tickets to the Lincoln Museum/Library, two bus route tickets, and a $50 VISA gift card.
- Hotel is dated, but decent. It has an indoor pool that is older, but nice. It is downtown within walking distance to many of the sites.
- There is no breakfast with the deal, so bring bagels and juice. There is a coffee maker in the room, but no refrigerator so bring a cooler.

- There is no free parking at the hotel ($7/day), but after 5:00 pm Friday until 8:00 am Monday, the meters are not enforced and you can park on the street for free.
