We received some statistical information from our agency today; the reality is, we could have quite the wait ahead (or we could just get lucky).

- Several families have identified a birth mother through their own networking efforts. Keep telling people about us!

- For families with placements this fiscal year (beginning in October), the average wait time in the Base Domestic Program has been 14 months, but waits ranged from one month to 34 months. The average wait time in the Sayers Program (African American) has been six months, but waits ranged from one month to 18 months.

- Of the 51 babies placed this year, 41% are African-American or biracial, 37% are Caucasian, 16% are Latino or biracial, and 6 % are Asian or biracial.

- In 2008, 30% more birth mothers chose adoption through The Cradle as compared with 2007. Placements so far this year are closer to the 2007 level.

- There has been an increase in families choosing domestic over international adoption as a way to build their family, resulting in an increase in the current number of waiting parents.
