We still don’t have our A/C replaced and/or fixed. Have a few quotes, but haven’t made any decisions. It is my hope that we can have something done in the next week or two for summer has arrived.
Go Blackhawks! Chicago definitely is filled with excitement over the Stanley Cup this year.
We spent some time up in Wisconsin over the weekend; the water was definitely warmer than usual for this time of the year. Andra was very hesitant of the water at first, but eventually was in on her own and enjoyed. She apparently is very frightened of fish.
A few dog questions that anyone might help us out with:
- she definitely has a problem with some men; others she is okay with. She doesn’t bark that often, but does with some men; the hair on her back will stand straight up.
- she is continuing to bite at her leash. We have read to spray it with bitter spray (which we have), but it doesn’t help much. We have also read to buy a metal leash (which we tried, but our pet store didn’t carry them). Any ideas? It can make walking time not-so-fun.
- she continues to jump at people once she knows them or if people are very friendly. It is when first coming into contact…then she stops. Her foster mom encouraged this behavior as a form of giving “hugs”; we don’t view it as good behavior as she continues to put on pounds, she may knock someone over.
- She continues to “teeth” with us. She is not meaning any harm, but we need to break the habit quick. We have a vinegar/water spray we have been using…any other ideas?
- She does not know how to self-regulate when she is getting tired. When she gets extremely tired, she gets into a spastic mode and is not able to calm herself. How do you get the dog to time-out on their own? Putting her in the crate does not always work for she gets anxious and upset and does not calm down and rest.

The men thing ... that's tricky because some dogs are just more protective than others and some definitely see men as a threat. Good luck with all the training, it just sounds like with all she's been through she just needs a little more TLC.
My husband and I watched a couple dog-training videos and found that a NO/praise method works well for our dogs. Shaking a can full of rocks or pennies may work, or a spray bottle of water, combined with the word NO. When they stop, or sit, give her lots of love and affection. It's worth a try.
is she a stray/shelter/rescue dog? that can sometimes explain the fear of men if the past of the animal involved them in abuse...
how old is she?
