Wildlife (sort of...)

We seem to rarely see wildlife on the trails, but have had some good luck every once and a while.  While visitors were waiting hours in the meadows at Rocky Mountain National Park to see elk, they could have just gone down to the local dog park and school to find them all hanging out and giving us a good show!

In September, we are once again planning on visiting beautiful Colorado, flying into Denver, and then making a southern route that will include Florissant Fossil Beds National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Curecanti National Recreation Area, Black Canyon of the Gunnision, and Colorado National Monument.  Coming back towards Dever, we will hit Aspen, Leadville (wish we were there for their famous race), and will "top" things out over 14,000 feet most likely on Mount Sherman before heading back to Denver.

Even sooner, we are taking a weekend plus Friday to travel to West Virginia.  While the majority of time will be spent in the car, we are going to try and visit Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Friendship Hill National Historic Site, For Necessity National Battlefield...and a big maybe on the Flight 93 National Memorial.  Also hoping to do some hiking at Ohioplye State Park and Coopers Rock National Forest.  We will see what time allows.

Rob has been preparing for a half-ironman that is in August; it has taken a lot of time out of the summer.  Between work, a wedding, our town's summer street-dance festival, volunteer activities, the road-trip, and the half-ironman...September in Colorado will be here soon enough.

Hi Kate, I don't have an email for you so am leaving a comment here.

Thanks for letting me know about the "non working" link. However I've checked it and tested it, and it should be working. It is frustrating for me to be told that links don't work Iit's been mentioned before and it is always working at my end) when they should be but I've now left a few options for people to find their way to Jonah's site and hopefully that will be enough. Thanks again!

Ha-ha, once my hubby and I visited Banff National Park, drove around the park all day and didn't see any wildlife and then we went into town and spotted a herd of elk! Looks like you have a couple of great trips planned! Have fun!
