Oprah!

Today, me and my friend Paula had the opportunity to attend a taping of Oprah! The most stressful part of the day was finding a place to park; after driving around for a long time, we ended up having to park in the lot across the street for way too much money. Needless to say, we were excited and got over it fairly quickly.

The topic of conversation was 'medical mistakes'; Dr. Oz was the co-host of the show. Their first guest was Dennis Quaid (The Rookie); he spoke about the overdose of Heparin their twins received. They had two additional guests that spoke about their misdiagnosis/lack of diagnosis with cancer. It was a very interesting show. Had we gotten an offer for the morning taping (we were at the afternoon taping), the guest was the father of Nadya Suleman (the mother of Octuplets). They did not know when our show would air, but said it would be within the next few weeks.

Oprah looked tired, but was still enthusiastic and pleasant. When she walked into the studio, she wasn't wearing any shoes; shortly after she sat down, someone came over and assisted her with a pair of very expensive looking purple high heels (she wore a tight fitting purple dress). She talked a bit about how she didn't ever know what the weather was because she went from one garage to another. At the end of the show, she was very gracious and thanked us all for coming.

The studio was buzzing around with people when we arrived onto the set; but right before she walked in - everything set into motion and the lights/cameras were on. There was a team of about 20-25 people on the set assisting with cameras, guests, etc. They went straight through the show with no retakes (commercial breaks were about 30-60 seconds long); the whole taping took less than an hour. What an interesting adventure!

Wow, that's cool. I'm not an Oprah fan, but I find all that behind the scenes stuff very interesting. The only similar experience I have had is the backlot tour at Universal Studios. It was insightful (surprisingly). I don't think I have ever seen a celebrity in person except for when I met Steve McQueen as a little girl. He was a patient of my grandfather's. Oh and that same grandfather took me to a John Denver concert! :D Thanks for sharing Katie!
