Permit!

The permit has arrived from the US Department of the Interior; so the planning has started! We are scheduled to do a rim-to-rim backpack hike of the grand canyon in May. Right now, it looks that we will start on the north rim, stay the night at the Bright Angel Campground at the bottom near the Colorado River, and then hike out to the south, and take a shuttle the five-hour drive back to the north.

As lodging at the Grand Canyon books far in advance of the permits being issued, things are not currently working out at the lodges on the north or the south rims. I am remaining persistent and checking everyday for a cancellation.

The trip is also going to include a day at Bryce Canyon, a day at Zion, a long-shot lottery chance at getting to hike The Wave, and potentially a day at Lake Powell. For The Wave, we will need to show up at the Kanab ranger station the day before we would like to hike at 9:00 am, and hope few others show up as well. Only 10 permits are granted on walk-in per day (from what I understand, it is fairly typical for 40+ people to show up daily). It would be really great to get lucky with those permits, but we also played the Powerball last night and won nothing!

Great that your permit came in! I pray you get the lodgings you need too to make a dream come true for you. Hugs and blessings. xx

I don't konw what "the wave" is. We stayed in one of the cabins at the north rim. The air is thin there! When you walk into that lodge the view is breathtaking!!

Sounds like another great trip!

Congrats on getting your permit. You're going to love this hike.
Keep trying every day for lodging, otherwise, get in touch when the time gets closer. Still a little cool for camping out on the NR in May.
